Diabetes is one of the leading cause of preventable death in the United States. According to 2015 statistical data from the American Diabetes Association of the 30.3 million adults with diabetes, 23.1 million were diagnosed, and 7.2 million were undiagnosed. Many people do not know what the symptoms are for early detection and thus do not have a plan for prevention or management. Being educated about the symptoms is one of the first steps to prevention. Common symptoms include:

-
Urinating often
-
Feeling very thirsty
-
Feeling very hungry - even though you are eating
-
Extreme fatigue
-
Blurry vision
-
Cuts/bruises that are slow to heal
-
Weight loss - even though you are eating more (type 1)
-
Tingling, pain, or numbness in the hands/feet (type 2)

It can be said that poor health leads to a poor life and equally, that a poor life leads to poor health. Living a life of poverty does not lend itself to having a quality life. Lack of income leads to poverty and as a result, people are marginalized and subjugated to inadequate health care, nutrition and substandard living conditions. Studies show that when people make more money health outcomes are improved. Loss of income has a more negative impact on health outcomes.
